Bob M. McGee opens the doors
The automotive business began when Rob's father, Bob M. McGee, opened the family's first dealership in 1970: a Toyota store in Falmouth, Massachusetts. From the very beginning, his vision was a dealership that prioritized customer satisfaction and community involvement, and that dedication set the foundation for what would become a legacy of trust in the automotive industry.
His commitment to meeting customers' needs amidst evolving automotive advancements has been a cornerstone of the business ever since, driving us to keep improving in order to meet and exceed what customers expect.
The move to Washington Street
The Toyota store moved from Falmouth to Hanover, opening its doors in 1974 at 860 Washington Street, where the McGee Automotive Family is still headquartered today. Through those early years, alongside Toyota in Hanover, the family also operated other manufacturers including AMC, Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep, and Pontiac. That diversification broadened our expertise across very different brands and strengthened our reputation as a versatile, reliable dealership.

Rob McGee followed in his father's footsteps into the family business. He started young, washing and detailing cars, and worked his way up through the departments, learning the business and reinforcing the culture behind the McGee name: trust, customer experience, and loyalty.
As Rob gained experience, he began to modernize the business while staying true to its core values. His hands-on understanding of every part of the dealership allowed him to make decisions that benefited both the company and its customers, and his commitment to a positive work environment built a team that shares the same standard.
Rob's journey from washing cars to leading the business is a testament to the work behind the McGee name, and to a legacy built to continue for generations.
Building for the South Shore
In 2014 it was time to bring a state-of-the-art facility to our local customers on the South Shore. Construction began on the McGee Toyota of Hanover building that stands today, replacing the store the family had run on Washington Street since 1974.

Today the McGee Automotive Family operates thirteen dealerships across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, New York, and Rhode Island, representing Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Mazda, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, and Lexus, with current offers at every store, and continuing to deliver on the culture Bob M. McGee envisioned when he opened the doors in 1970.
