Electrify Your New York & New England Drives

There are three main kinds of electrified vehicles, broadly speaking. Fully electric models rely solely on battery-and-motor architectures to drive across the Northeast and beyond. Plug-in hybrids and mild hybrids both use gasoline alongside batteries and motors. A plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) requires external charging to enjoy its full potential, while mild hybrids do not.

Skip the External Charger: Mild-Hybrid Vehicles

Many of the new hybrid vehicles for sale at McGee Automotive Family dealerships across New York and New England are mild hybrids, pairing internal combustion engines with battery-and-motor systems. Their batteries are recharged via regenerative braking; they don't need to be plugged in to reach their full potential.

Regenerative braking technology allows the vehicle's motor to run in reverse so that it can capture some of the energy that is lost when one uses the brakes or even takes their foot off the gas pedal. Typically, this energy is released as heat, but regenerative braking uses the motors to provide some charge to the battery when you brake.

Some popular mild hybrids (not a complete list) from the OEMs we represent across the McGee Automotive Family include:

  • Ford: Escape Hybrid, Maverick Hybrid, F-150 Hybrid
  • Hyundai: Elantra Hybrid, Sonata Hybrid, Tucson Hybrid, Santa Fe Hybrid
  • Lexus: ES Hybrid, UX Hybrid, NX Hybrid, RX Hybrid
  • Mazda: CX-50 Hybrid
  • Toyota: Corolla Hybrid, Prius, Camry, RAV4

The Best of Both Worlds: Plug-In Hybrid Configurations

Plug-in hybrids, like their mild-hybrid siblings, rely on batteries, motors, and traditional gas-fed engines. However, they need to be charged via an external power source to achieve peak efficiency. Their larger batteries are generally even capable of powering the car without using any gasoline for a couple dozen miles.

When picking out a new hybrid, you'll have to decide whether you want to go with a simpler mild hybrid or a PHEV that requires external electricity in exchange for even more competitive fuel economy scores. If you'd like a hand deciding between these two kinds of new hybrid cars, please reach out to us!

Here are some top PHEVs you can find at our dealerships:

  • BMW: 550e xDrive
  • Ford: Escape PHEV
  • Hyundai: Tucson PHEV
  • Lexus: NX PHEV, RX PHEV
  • Mazda: CX-70 PHEV, CX-90 PHEV
  • Toyota: Prius PHEV, RAV4 PHEV

Go Fully Electric: New EV Automobiles

The other type of electrified automobiles is electric vehicles (EVs). A new EV does not use gasoline at all, instead relying solely on external charging. As a result, these cars are even more efficient in their energy usage than plug-in hybrids.

There are many benefits to taking the leap and purchasing or leasing an electric vehicle. These models usually suffer less wear and tear than their gasoline-fed counterparts because they have fewer moving components and don't rely on controlled explosions to move down the roads in New York and New England.

Check out these EVs in our dealer network:

  • Audi: A6 Sportback e-tron, Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron
  • BMW: i4, i5, i7, iX3, iX
